Prior to a couple of days ago, I had only heard the occasional episode of The Bold Venture and I had the opportunity to do a “marathon” of listening to most of the recordings of that series. I really liked the interplay and chemistry between Bacall and Bogie, especially when Bogie chuckles, and the calypso singer is a nice choice, but I have to say that for a series that ran for less than 2 years, this has to be the deadliest radio show ever made! The body count is enormous! I think each and every episode has a minimum of one, but usually two to three knifings & shhotings and most don’t make it. About every second or third episode, they have to hock the boat to get bail money for “Shannon” and of course the police thinks one or the other of them is guilty for every murder. Although Shannon & “Duvall” are lovey-dovey at the end of the shows, it is perturbing that the writers have Shannon making a relentless beeline for most everything in skirts. Severl women charachters that consist of mainly vacationers, etc sre quite vicious & cold-hearted, which just adds to the body count as well.
